Why Sickle Cell Disease?

In Ghana 18,000 babies are born with sickle cell disease yearly. Only 5% make it pass the age of 5 years. Out of every 4 persons Ghanaian, 1 has the sickle cell disease trait. The occurrence of the sickle cell trait is between 15 and 30 % in West Africa. This is not just scary, but, VERY ALARMING!
